Health Testing

At Blue Buddha Frenchies, every one of our dogs is fully health tested. We carefully select pairings with one goal in mind: to better the breed. Quality, health, and temperament always come first

Predisposition Health Issues To French Bulldogs

Frenchies are a wonderful breed, but like all breeds, they can be predisposed to certain health concerns. We go above and beyond with health testing to make sure our dogs — and future puppies — are set up for the healthiest, happiest lives possible. Every breeding decision is made with the goal of bettering the breed for generations to come. Please know that predispositions to the breed are something we can try hard to breed against but certain things are apart of French Bulldog anatomy.

  • Respiratory challenges (BOAS – Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome)

  • Spinal issues (hemivertebrae, IVDD)

  • Joint problems (patellar luxation, hip dysplasia)

  • Cardiac concerns

  • Skin and allergy sensitivities

  • Eye disorders (cataracts, cherry eye, entropion)

Here are tests we do on our parents prior to breeding:

  • BOAS Functional Testing – evaluates airway function

  • Full DNA Genetic Panel – checks for:

    • Degenerative Myelopathy (DM)

    • Cystinuria 2 and 3

    • Hyperuricosuria (HUU)

    • CRM1 Canine Multifocal Retinopathy 1 gene mutation.

    • JHC Juvenile Hereditary Cataracts

    • Coat color genetics & color-linked health risks

🐾 Why French Bulldogs Are Amazing

1. Big Personality in a Small Package
Frenchies are compact, but their personalities are larger than life. They’re playful, goofy, and endlessly entertaining, making them natural mood-boosters in any home.

2. Loyal & Loving Companions
They thrive on human connection. Whether it’s snuggling on the couch, following you from room to room, or sitting on your lap like they own it, Frenchies form deep bonds with their families.

3. Adaptable to Any Lifestyle
City apartment? Suburban home? Busy family? Single professional? French Bulldogs adjust easily. They don’t need huge yards or endless exercise — just daily walks and lots of love.

4. Low Maintenance Grooming
Their short, sleek coats require only minimal grooming. A quick weekly brush and the occasional bath keep them looking sharp.

5. Natural Comedians
From their snorts and “talking” sounds to their playful antics, Frenchies are known for keeping their humans laughing. They’re often called “clowns in the cloak of a philosopher.”

6. Kid & Pet Friendly
French Bulldogs are generally social, tolerant, and gentle, which makes them wonderful companions for kids and other pets when properly socialized.

7. Unique Look & Endless Variety
With their bat ears, expressive eyes, and wide range of coat colors, Frenchies turn heads everywhere they go. Each one is truly one of a kind.
